Context
On November 14, 2022 at the Ministry of Health in Paris (7th arrondissement), a thematic seminar was co-organized by the PROMISE meta-network, the French-speaking Infectious Pathology Society (SPILF), the Good Use of Antibiotics Group of the SPILF, the Regional Antibiotherapy Center of the Grand Est (Antibioest) and the PACA Reference Center in Antibiotherapy (PACATB).
Its theme was: “Between ecological impacts and stock shortages, what choices for the antibiotic therapy of tomorrow?”. It was intended for public and private professionals in human, animal or environmental health, but also for researchers, decision-makers, teachers, students, environmental and user associations and even journalists.
The seminar brought together a total of 98 participants in person and 100 connected by videoconference.
Objectives
The multiple objectives of the event were as follows:
- Connect scientific, technical, economic and political stakeholders around the issue of the ecological impact of antibiotics;
- Share findings on ecological impacts and pressure on antibiotic production;
- Discuss the feasibility of producing and marketing antibiotics in an eco-responsible manner;
- Discuss the relocation of antibiotic production in France and Europe;
- Discuss the introduction of environmental criteria in the granting of marketing authorization, distribution and prescription of antibiotics;
- Seek concrete cross-cutting solutions in the areas of health and the environment.
Program
The seminar was an opportunity for many speakers to speak. The program involved the holding of three distinct sessions:
- Session 1 – Antibiotics: between ecological impact and stock shortages
- Session 2 – What are the obstacles and levers for choosing and/or producing low-impact antibiotics in France and Europe?
- Session 3 – Building the antibiotic therapy of tomorrow
