Following a public consultation launched in November 2023, a new interministerial roadmap entitled “preventing and reducing antibiotic resistance, combating antimicrobial resistance” was published in September 2024.
This roadmap is part of France’s determination to control antimicrobial resistance at various levels by launching several ministerial plans for human health, animal health and other sectors. As part of this “One Health” vision of the problem, it is worth noting the publication – in parallel with the roadmap – in recent years of the National Strategy 2022-2025 for the Prevention of Infections and Antibiotic Resistance, which brings together 42 actions designed to provide the means to respond to priority public health issues in the prevention of infections and antibiotic resistance in human health.
This ambitious new 10-year roadmap is therefore a continuation of the efforts undertaken since 2016 and is divided into 5 parts, broken down into 17 strategic objectives:
- Involve all stakeholders and develop a long-term strategy for awareness-raising, training and communication.
- Develop research to gain a better understanding of the mechanisms involved.
- Strengthen coordination of integrated surveillance tools.
- Preserve the existing arsenal of products, optimise their use and develop innovations to combat antimicrobial resistance.
- Working with the French team to raise France’s international profile.
