Launch of the new European partnership ‘One Health Antimicrobial Resistance’ (OHAMR)

At the end of September, the European Union officially launched the new European partnership ‘One Health Antimicrobial Resistance’ (OHAMR): €253 million for research and innovation against antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Co-funded by Horizon Europe to the tune of €75 million, this ambitious ten-year programme tackles the urgent global health threat posed by antimicrobial resistance.

Coordinated by the Swedish Research Council, OHAMR brings together 53 organisations from 30 countries under a ‘One Health’ approach to connect sectors and accelerate the implementation of solutions to reduce antimicrobial use and resistance.

Activities planned under the partnership include:

  • Joint transnational calls for collaborative research and innovation projects;
  • Strengthening research capacities in participating countries;
  • Promoting the implementation and translation of knowledge into policy;
  • Supporting access to and better use of AMR data;
  • Strengthening impact through coordination and harmonisation of national and European efforts.

This partnership will contribute in particular to the implementation of the Strategy for European Life Sciences by promoting a ‘One Health’ approach, which recognises the interdependence between human, animal and environmental health, a key principle set out in the strategy.
