The Member States of the United Nations met for the High-Level Meeting of the General Assembly from 23 to 27 September 2024 in New York. This year, the high-level meeting on health focused on the theme of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and took place on 26 September.
This 2024 edition resulted in the adoption of an ambitious political declaration for enhanced global action to combat AMR, addressing its many challenges and areas, including:
- The three areas of health: human, animal and environmental,
- Research and development,
- Production, training and monitoring.
It also sets targets to be achieved by 2030 at global level:
- Commit to intensify actions with the aim of reducing by 10%, by 2030, the number of deaths worldwide associated with bacterial antimicrobial resistance,
- Develop and implement multi-sectoral national action plans on antimicrobial resistance for all countries by 2030,
- Facilitate sustainable international cooperation funding to support the implementation of these national action plans on antimicrobial resistance.
