“Antibiotics: the rise of resistance… France and Europe strike back!”: PROMISE highlighted in a new publication

In response to the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), numerous initiatives have been implemented at both national and European levels to promote the responsible use of antibiotics, strengthen the surveillance of resistant bacteria, support research, and develop new therapeutic strategies. At the European level, collaborative programmes encourage data sharing, innovation, and the coordination of research efforts. In France, several successive action plans have been launched to raise awareness among healthcare professionals and the general public, alongside more targeted projects. Among these initiatives is PROMISE, which brings together academic and institutional stakeholders to strengthen synergies between projects, accelerate knowledge generation, and contribute to the fight against this major public health challenge.

A new article has recently been published, providing an overview of the national and European initiatives implemented to combat antimicrobial resistance within a “One Health” framework. PROMISE is prominently featured in this publication. The article highlights efforts to strengthen governance, intergovernmental and territorial coordination, as well as surveillance and research activities.

These efforts demonstrate the commitment of both the European Union and France. However, progress remains fragile in an international and national context where political priorities can shift rapidly. To preserve this common good, it is crucial to maintain political commitment, funding, and international cooperation in addressing this major crisis.
